The P filter, aerosol filter or particle filter (white)
There are three classes of filtration:
- P1 stops at least 80% of particles – bothersome dust, non-toxic fibrogenic dust
- P2 stops at least 84% of particles – toxic dust (wood, polyester resin…), metallic fumes (welding fumes) and oil mists
- P3 stops at least 99.99% of particles – highly toxic dust (asbestos, arsenic, cadmium, radioactive…), lead, welding fumes and oil mists
When to change your P3R filter cartridge (dust filter)
You must replace the P3R filter in your respirator mask if:
- You notice that it is becoming increasingly difficult to breathe through the filter ;
- As soon as the product's scent is perceived in the mask,
- the filter is visibly dirty, deformed or damaged;
- You used the filter for a long time.
- 6 months after opening.
A P3R dust filter is a class 3 (P3) particulate filter. It offers maximum protection against solid and liquid particles, including aerosols, dust, fumes, and fibers. The letter R indicates that the cartridge is reusable.
There is no fixed lifespan for P3R filters, as it varies depending on usage conditions and the manufacturer's recommendations. The timing for changing a P3R dust filter depends on several factors: the concentration of particles in the air, the duration of use, and environmental conditions.
Classification of respiratory filters
- Type P filter, WHITE colour: against particles (aerosols, dust, fumes, mists)
- AX type filter: BROWN color: : against gases and vapors of organic compounds with a boiling point less than or equal to 65°C.
- Type A filter: BROWN color: against gases and vapors of organic compounds with a boiling point greater than or equal to 65°C.
- Type B filter: GREY color: against inorganic gases and vapors: chlorine, hydrogen sulfide, nitric acid.
- Type E filter, YELLOW colour: : against sulfur dioxide, hydrochloric acid, sulfurous anhydride.
- Type K filter, GREEN color: ammonia and organic amine derivatives.
Classification of respiratory masks
- FFP1*: non-toxic dust
- FFP2S*: fine and toxic dust, fumes
- FFP2SL*: FFP2S+ toxic mists
- FFP3S*: very toxic dust, fumes.
- FFP3SL*: FFP3S+ protection against all liquid aerosols
* FF: disposable mask / P: protection against particles / S, SL: solid, solid and liquid / 1, 2, 3: placed after the letters P, A, AX, B, E, K, the numbers represent the degree of protection of the filters: 1: low, 2: medium, 3: high.
